Julie Baxter
Julie Baxter currently practices law at Julie Baxter, Attorney at Law, LLC. She earned her Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Civil Law degrees from the LSU Law Center. Julie spent more than a decade in radio and television news. Until December 2006, Julie anchored the highest-rated weekend evening newscasts in Baton Rouge. She is the winner of the 2001 Regional Edward R. Murrow award for Investigative Reporting in Television, and has been recognized for her award-winning reporting by the Associated Press and the National Association of Press Women.
Mustafa Akyol
Mustafa Akyol is a columnist for the Turkish newspapers, Hurriyet Daily News and Star. His articles have also appeared in Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and Xthe Guardian. He is author of Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty, an argument for ‘Muslim liberalism.’ Akyol has also written for Al-Monitor, “the Pulse in the Middle East,” and appears regularly on Turkish political discussion shows.
Mr. Akyol will sign his book “Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty” at the end of the program.
Aydin Cayir
Aydin Cayir is a renowned Turkish calligrapher. He graduated from Marmara University School of Islamic Theology and he got his master degree on pedagogy. Mr. Cayir was interested in the art of classical calligraphy since his high school years and later on, this interest grew in him to include the Latin calligraphy. He displayed his art and held exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Romania and the United States. He has represented Turkey in several art and cultural festivals worldwide.
